Jack Wilshere turned down a move to Birmingham as he was unwilling to drop to the Championship.

The Gunners were happy to loan out Wilshere before the closure of the transfer window and Birmingham were keen to complete an audacious swoop by taking him to St Andrews for the season.

Blues were even willing to pay Wilshere £90,000 a week to conclude the deal, but the midfielder was unwilling to drop down to the Championship at this stage in his career and turned down the move.

Wilshere is closing in on full fitness after suffering a broken leg while on loan at Bournemouth last season, and will be hoping to force his way back into the thoughts of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger once fit.

If that is not possible then Wilshere will weigh up his future again when the transfer window re-opens in January.
